Diabetic Retinopathy is an eye complication as a result of diabetes. It can occur in patients with type I or type II diabetes. The risk increases with a longer history of diabetes. With diabetic retinopathy, the blood vessels in the retina weaken, causing blood, proteins and lipids to leak and the retina to swell.
